In more than three decades of my Christian life, I have been blest by 2 types of Daily devos'
(matter not exceeding 500 words) in universal Christian literature.
Not only those Devos' which have a different theme everyday but also the ones
which revolve around a certain theme over a period of time, say a fortnight have
richly edified me. In fact, both styles have their own inherent advantages.
If the former style caters to the varying spiritual needs of a christian from day-to-day,
the latter aims 'to ground' a child of God in a certain subject in order he derives the full
benefits of the deep insightful study of a certain topic, spread over a fixed span of time.
In my Daily devo page, I have consciously tried to go in for 'a blend of both the styles'
whereby within a constant theme, I would be aiming to focus on different facets of it which admittedly
is a closer imitation of the 'Constant theme' style than the 'Varying topics' one.
For starters in the first month of January I would be dwelling on the theme of the
"Christian Journey", with the material being arranged in a Book-like format under which the pages
would be opened ( i,e..displayed on-line) on each succeeding day.

Alls well that ends well!
Now then, just as the LORD promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five
years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the desert.
So here I am today, eighty-five years old! I am still as strong today as the day Moses
sent me out; I'm just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then…

Today, as we conclude our meditations on several similarities that exist between the journeys’
of emancipated Jews enroute to the Promised Land that of the Christians on their own heavenward journey,
let’s focus on one trait of our great God…his ‘Faithfulness’. Yes, if there is one word to describe
God…He is ‘faithful’. In the above-mentioned scripture portion, we see his faithfulness manifested
in ample measure in Caleb’s life. Who is testifying to that? Caleb himself, now standing in the land
of plenty! While many around him fell dead in the wilderness sojourn of 40 long years, on account of
their lack of faith, Caleb affirms that his vim, vigour and vitality is all due to the safekeeping of
his ‘faithful’ God who had promised him, long ago, to bring him safe into the ‘land of milk and honey’
(Numbers 14:24)

‘God is faithful’…this has been the testimony of many a Saint who has trusted his Creator.
For instance, Noah trusting God, expended all his resources, whilst building the ark in
perfect obedience to God’s will, so much so, it is said that when he stepped into
the ark before the flood, he was a pauper but when he stepped out of it, after the flood,
well… he owned the world! Closer to times, Paul in his final epistle, nearing the end of his life,
speaks confidently of being ushered into the Heavenly realm
(II Tim 4:6-8).

Dear friends, our God is an unchanging God, our reward in Him is secure
(II Cor 15:58)
. So be encouraged!

Prayer:
Father, the call of Christians is to be eternity-sighted, so enable us to press on,
like so many saints of the past, not looking at the present difficulties but at Thee,
for in Thee alone is our eventual reward. In Jesus’ Name. Amen
|
