In more than three decades of my Christian life, I have been blest by 2 types of Daily devos'
(matter not exceeding 500 words) in universal Christian literature.
Not only those Devos' which have a different theme everyday but also the ones
which revolve around a certain theme over a period of time, say a fortnight have
richly edified me. In fact, both styles have their own inherent advantages.
If the former style caters to the varying spiritual needs of a christian from day-to-day,
the latter aims 'to ground' a child of God in a certain subject in order he derives the full
benefits of the deep insightful study of a certain topic, spread over a fixed span of time.
In my Daily devo page, I have consciously tried to go in for 'a blend of both the styles'
whereby within a constant theme, I would be aiming to focus on different facets of it which admittedly
is a closer imitation of the 'Constant theme' style than the 'Varying topics' one.
For starters in the first month of January I would be dwelling on the theme of the
"Christian Journey", with the material being arranged in a Book-like format under which the pages
would be opened ( i,e..displayed on-line) on each succeeding day.
So here's wishing you a happy & an edifying read....

Submitting to authority
Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over
you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy,
not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you –Hebrews 13:17

While continuing to dwell on the similarities between the emancipated Jews & the Christians, we now
come to the subject of submitting to authority. If the ‘redeemed lot’ were required to submit to
their God-ordained leader Moses
(I Cor 10:2), then what about us, Christians?
|
|
Our Heavenly Father in His sovereign wisdom appoints leaders over us to guide and instruct us in His ways &
we are duty-bound to submit to the God-ordained leadership. For the Church members, it would be their Church
pastor or elders in their congregation who would be their ‘shepherd’ & as for small children their parents
and a Sunday school teacher would be ‘their guide’. For a wife, it would be her husband
(I Cor 11:3).

Sad but true that in the case of the emancipated lot from Egypt, whenever they rebelled
against the authority of Moses –who himself was a very humble man – they came under
Divine indictment
(Numbers 12/
Numbers 21:5-6). As such, we are well advised in our
Christian walk to submit to God-ordained authority, in order everything goes well for us.

Prayer:
Father, we are often guilty of spurning the authority of men, whom Thou in Thy wisdom hast
appointed over us as our leaders. Put in us that gentle & submissive spirit to submit to them,
so that we reap Thy blessings in toto. In Jesus' name. Amen.
