In more than three decades of my Christian life, I have been blest by 2 types of Daily devos'
(matter not exceeding 500 words) in universal Christian literature.
Not only those Devos' which have a different theme everyday but also the ones
which revolve around a certain theme over a period of time, say a fortnight have
richly edified me. In fact, both styles have their own inherent advantages.
If the former style caters to the varying spiritual needs of a christian from day-to-day,
the latter aims 'to ground' a child of God in a certain subject in order he derives the full
benefits of the deep insightful study of a certain topic, spread over a fixed span of time.
In my Daily devo page, I have consciously tried to go in for 'a blend of both the styles'
whereby within a constant theme, I would be aiming to focus on different facets of it which admittedly
is a closer imitation of the 'Constant theme' style than the 'Varying topics' one.
For starters in the first month of January 2009 I would be dwelling on the theme of the
"Christian Journey", with the material being arranged in a Book-like format under which the pages
would be opened ( i,e..displayed on-line) on each succeeding day.
So here's wishing you a happy & an edifying read....

The Roller-coaster ride
Again and again they put God to the test; they vexed the Holy One of Israel. - Psalm 78:41

Times haven’t changed really! If the redeemed Israelites made going astray their habit,
even as their hard-pressed leader Moses was panting & puffing to lead them in the
paths of obedience
(Exodus 16:27-29/
17:1-8) then how often, in my own spiritual
life I had been guilty of spurning my Father’s Holy commands’ only to be brought
under His loving, disciplining hand
(Heb 12:7-11). As every Christian looks back
honestly on the road he has traversed with His great guiding God, he would simply
marvel at the patience of his Redeemer in putting up with him for so long.

Really, spiritual life sometimes resembles a roller-coaster ride.
Up one minute & down the other but this gives us one more opportunity
(I shall never tire of reiterating this) of praising our patient &
perseverant Creator, Redeemer & Guide for putting up with the likes of people like us.

It is also worthwhile to note that no Christian stays ‘down permanently’
after falling (I John 3:9), as the Spirit of the Lord would make him restless
till the right relationship with his Redeemer is restored. That’s why one Bible
scholar even while likening unbelievers to a pig which wallows comfortably in a
world of its own-dirty puddle- likened a believer to a lamb which on slipping into
dirty waters, struggles out immediately, ‘shakes’ itself clean & resumes its journey.

Prayer:
Father, even as we rejoice in Thy faithful, perseverant love, make us more &
more sensitive to sin in order that we do not let our guards down in our
spiritual journey, even for a moment. In Jesus name. Amen
