Obedience is the key
My first poem in this New Year of 2013
Is based on the Luke’s Gospel Chapter five verses three to seven
The experience of Peter the fishermen
Holds several lessons for us to learn
There by the Sea of Galilee, Peter met the Saviour
Tired and disappointed as he was after a fruitless, night-long, tiring fishing session
The Master asks him to go into the deeper waters and cast the net
Showing implicit obedience, away goes Peter on a new fishing mission
Ponder for a moment, Peter was infact an expert fisherman
And the Man advising him was actually a carpenter by profession
But in Peter’s heart, there was no doubt nor confusion
He knew and believed in Jesus’ words who had just preached with power and conviction
As soon as he went into the deep and cast his net
His net was full of fish by the miracle the Master wrought
Now with his boat about to sink because of the huge catch
Two more boats were called to accommodate all the fish caught
Dear friends, in this New Year do we want to receive abundant blessings from the Lord?
Blessings so abundant that we can pass the same onto other “Boats” too in abundance?
Then we need to learn to take the Master at his word and obey His instructions
Whereupon blessings would come chasing us by His Will and not by chance
Also in this New Year, let us learn to go deeper in Spiritual matters
Of prayer, fasting, witnessing, Church fellowship and Bible reading
In all these areas’, let us strive to improve by spending more time on them
Believe me, if you aim to go deeper in these areas’, a richer spiritual life will come visiting
Seek also all the spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit,
But leave the choice of bestowing them as per His omniscient, sovereign wisdom
He knows what is best for you, for He has called you
Trust Him and accept what (gifts of the Holy Spirit) He gives you for the building of His Kingdom
So Dear Friends, I am wishing you all
A year of greater and deeper spiritual experience
Remember the moral in Peter’s story of fishing in “deeper waters”
Deeper, fulfilling spiritual experiences’ are always preceded by implicit obedience
