In more than three decades of my Christian life, I have been blest by 2 types of Daily devos'
(matter not exceeding 500 words) in universal Christian literature. Not only those Devos'
which have a different theme everyday but also the ones which revolve around a certain
theme over a period of time, say a fortnight, have richly edified me. In fact, both
styles have their own inherent advantages. If the former style caters to the varying
spiritual needs of a christian from day-to-day, the latter aims 'to ground'
a child of God in a certain subject in order he derives the full benefits of the
deep insightful study of a certain topic, spread over a fixed span of time.
In my Daily devo page, I have consciously tried to go in for 'a blend of both the
styles' whereby within a constant theme, I would be aiming to focus on different
facets of it which admittedly is a closer imitation of the 'Constant theme' style
than the 'Varying topics' one.
Having dwelt on the topic of Christian journey in the previous month, now in the month
of Febraury, I intend to focus on a monumental piece of Jewish history….the
Conquest of Canaan, with its particular relevance to modern day breed of
Christian spiritual warriors.
Once again, let me wish you a happy and an edifying read…

God –the Eternal Encourager…
No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As
I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you –
Joshua 1:5

Now, who doesn’t need a pep talk before undertaking anything important? Even
in our school days, just before a race or a ball game a pep talk of our caring
Dads or our Coaches preferably with their arms around us would just be what the
Doctor would order …a stimulating tonic…to put in the very best of efforts.
Joshua with a daunting task ahead of him of leading the conquest, needed more
than the pep talk of God as he contemplated on the enormity of the task before him.
He needed the very presence of his Divine Protector with him. For not only,
before him loomed a formidable task of waging a war against the powerful enemy forces,
besides that there always was that lurking danger of rebellion with in his own camp,
as like what transpired during the leadership of Moses
(Numbers 16).
Knowing Joshua’s apprehensions, there was his Creator God standing besides assuring
him of His presence and support at all times. Oh, how reassuring, the words of the Redeemer
God would have sounded to him, as he sized up the daunting task before him.
For Christians too, if there are words, which readily come to their mind, as they
faithfully go about fulfilling Christ’s commission, those are the words of their Master
just before his ascension.
“…And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."-
Matt 28:20.
Hence apostle Paul could boldly proclaim ‘…If God is for us, who can be
against us?’-
Rom 8:31. The answer is ….NO ONE.
Prayer:
Father, even as we go about fulfilling our call to be thy faithful witnesses’,
what a comfort it is to know that that You are always with us and are for us.
We needn’t fear anyone or anything. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
